
According to the data revealed by The Aluminium Association, shipments of aluminium can stock by domestic producers in the United States totalled at around 338.5 million pounds in August 2018, while that in the same period last year was at 356.2 million pounds. In July 2018, shipments of aluminium can stock from the US had even stood higher at 351.3 million pounds in total. This shows that the aluminium can stock shipments from the US faced a year-on-year dent by 5 per cent and month-on-month by 3.6 per cent in August 2018.

{alcircleadd}The data also revealed that year-to-date shipments through August 2018 were seen at 2,709.2 million pounds, 1.5 per cent down from 2,749.8 million pounds in 2017. Compared to August 2017, producer shipments of can stock to the U.S. markets were down 1.3 percent to 298.0 million pounds, while exports decreased 25.6 percent to 40.5 million pounds.

Shipments of non-heat treatable sheet (excluding can stock) rose 6.6 per cent to 256.4 million pounds and shipments of all other sheet and plate increased 21.5 per cent to 177.3 million pounds.
Shipments of aluminium foil, on the other hand, recorded a growth of 2.5 per cent, from 86 million pounds in August 2017 to 88.2 million pounds in August 2018. Compared to the previous month, shipments by the domestic producers in the US and Canada even rose totalling 87.3 million pounds. Year-to-date shipments through August 2018 had totalled 661.5 million pounds, up nine-tenths of one percent over the 2017 year-to-date total of 655.3 million pounds.

Estimated net shipments of aluminium sheet and plate by the U.S. and Canadian producers totalled at 772.3 million pounds during August 2018, an increase of 4.0 percent from 742.8 million pounds in August 2017. Compared to the previous month, shipments rose 4.9 percent over July 2018 totalled at 736.1 million pounds. Year-to-date shipments through August 2018 had stood at 5,929.2 million pounds, 2.6 percent up over the 2017 year-to-date total of 5,781.5 million pounds.
