
In South America, alumina production in January 2022 stood at 995,000 tonnes, reflecting a month-on-month downfall of 9,000 tonnes or 0.90 per cent, found the International Aluminium Institute data. In December 2021, alumina output stood in South America came in at 1,004,000 tonnes, up by 6.24 per cent from 945,000 tonnes in November.

In the fourth quarter of 2021, alumina production in South America amounted to 2.934 million tonnes, 3.67 per cent higher than 2.830 million tonnes in Q3 but 2.52 per cent less than 3.010 million tonnes in Q4 2020.
On a year-on-year basis, South America’s alumina production in January 2022 recorded a decrease of 6.92 per cent from 1.069 million tonnes.
In full-year 2021, alumina output in South America totalled 12.111 million tonnes, up by 2.81 per cent from 11.780 million tonnes in 2020.
In North America, alumina production in January 2022 stood at 211,000 tonnes, registering a fall of 5,000 tonnes or 2.31 per cent from 216,000 tonnes in November. On a year-on-year calculation, the output in January edged a decline of 9.05 per cent from 232,000 tonnes.
In the final quarter of 2021, alumina output in North America totalled 636,000 tonnes, up by 5.30 per cent Q-o-Q from 604,000 tonnes but down by 7.02 per cent Y-o-Y from 684,000 tonnes.
In the entire year 2021, alumina production in NorthAmerica amounted to 2.523 million tonnes, 5.54 per cent less than 2.671 million tonnes in 2020.
