Alumina price in China declines by RMB22/t and the ingot price by RMB180/t

According to Shanghai Metals Market, the average alumina price starts off the second quarter of the calendar year 2019 with a drop today by RMB 22 per tonne to come in at RMB 2,672 per tonne. On March 22, the average alumina price had recorded the last plunge from RMB 2,704 per tonne to RMB 2,694 per tonne. Post that the price remained unchanged at RMB 2,694 per tonne till March 29.

Since the average alumina price drop has touched upon all the major markets of China, the price in the east has slipped by RMB 10 per tonne to RMB 2,680 per tonne. The markets in the central and north have registered a price drop by RMB 20 per tonne to RMB 2,680 per tonne and RMB 2,660 per tonne, respectively. In the south, on the other hand, the price has recorded a plunge by RMB 35 per tonne to stand at RMB 2,680 per tonne, same as that of the price in central.

In the background of the alumina price drop, the A00 aluminium ingot price has declined significantly today, found Shanghai Metals Market. Straight from RMB 13,920 per tonne, the aluminium ingot price has come down to RMB 13,740 per tonne, marking a plunge by RMB 180 per tonne. The average prices are expected to range between RMB 13,720 per tonne and RMB 13,760 per tonne, with spot discount to settle at RMB 40 per tonne.

In the east (Wuxi and Hangzhou), the A00 aluminium ingot price has decreased by RMB 175 per tonne and RMB 180 per tonne to stand at RMB 13,755 per tonne and RMB 13,760 per tonne, while that in the south has declined by RMB 190 per tonne to RMB 13,730 per tonne. The markets in the north have recorded a maximum decline by RMB 240 per tonne to stand at RMB 13,720 per tonne.

The significant drop in aluminium ingot price today has also pulled down the prices of aluminium alloys. Aluminium alloys (ADC12) price has fallen by RMB 100 per tonne to come in at RMB 14,750 per tonne. The prices of aluminium alloy (A356) and aluminium alloy (A380) have plunged to RMB 14,450 per tonne from RMB 14,600 per tonne and to RMB 15,450 per tonne from RMB 15,550 per tonne.
