Aleris Aluminum Recycling to bring in 10-15 jobs to Elyria
Jason Saragian, director of communications, said that the move will bring 10 to 15 jobs to Elyria. Production will be stopped at the Indiana facility effective July 31.
Those who worked at the Indiana facility will have the opportunity to apply, but the positions will be open to anyone, Saragian said.
The Elyria facility has the adequate capacity to grow and serve customers efficiently, he said.
According to Aleris’ website, the aluminum shredding and sizing operation in Elyria makes various aluminum products. Those products play a role in the steel manufacturing process.
Customers of Aleris include steel mills and service centers that are located in the United States and Canada.
The products at the facility help to remove excess oxygen and impurities during steel-making operations.
“The Elyria facility has the capabilities to accompany future growth in the company,” Saragian said.
The facility, at 320 Huron St., was founded in 1984, but Aleris was formed in 2004, Saragian said. The company was formed through the merger of Commonwealth Industries, Inc. and IMCO Recycling, Inc, according to Aleris.
Aleris also services the automotive and aerospace industry, he added. Streamlining operations will allow the Elyria facility to be more competitive in the market place, Saragian said.
