Worried community meets CM on Vedanta closure

Three delegations representing members of displaced families, people who lost their jobs consequent to the refinery closure and parents of children enrolled in the DAV Vedanta International School met Patnaik and handed over memorandums to him requesting him to stop a permanent closure of the plant.
The memorandum submitted by displaced people said, “We are 121 families, mostly belonging to the tribal community, and we’re living happily at Niyamgiri Vedanta Nagar. We dream of our children becoming a doctor or an engineer or a Government official. If the Vedanta plant goes away from this place, Lanjigarh will again go back to the earlier days when it was known for malnutrition, poverty, malarial death, cholera, diarrhoea, poor health, lack of education and infrastructure and our children will not get education.” Vedanta has closed its refinery from December 5 last due to shortage of bauxite.
