WEEKLY: China's alumina output falls, stocks rise to new high

During the December 12-18 week, production of metallurgical-grade alumina among the 44 Chinese producers tracked by Mysteel fell to 1.84 million tonnes, down 1.3 per cent on week, according to Mysteel's survey. The pace of decline accelerated from the marginal 0.1 per cent drop the previous week, reflecting longer and more frequent maintenance stoppages at some refineries in response to thinning profitability and production curbs for pollution control, market sources said.
