Weak Consumption and high costs lower scrap imports

China Customs released imports and exports data of aluminum scrap in August.In August China imports 200 thousand tons of aluminum scrap, decrease 23.08%, compared with the same period of last year. Comsumption continues weak and the high cost of import are the main reasons for the decline.
There are three main reasons: the first one is, with the approaching of dull consumption season and weather turning hotter, there is an obvious decline of manufacture of aluminum alloy in China. The slow down in consumption of aluminum scrap impacts imports directly. The second one is the high price of foreign suppliers, unwilling to export with low price. The last one is the lower profit of Chinese importers, as well as the rise of customs cost,which also are reasons that contribute to the decline.
In conclusion, the weak consumption of domestic remanufactured aluminum is the main reason for the decline. It is expected to recover in September as the consumption regains,and will increase aluminum scrap consumption to some extent, but still will be limited.
