Vedanta Aluminium has announced plans to expand its all-women locomotive team at Jharsuguda aluminium smelter in Odisha by the end of this year. This is the extension of the company’s ongoing efforts to foster inclusivity and promote women’s leadership in the traditionally male-dominated industrial roles.
{alcircleadd}At present, the women's team at Jharsuguda comprises seven members who are in charge of the management of key logistics operations within the plant. As a part of the plan, six more members will be added to the team, which will help the company address the growing operational demands at the site. Also, it will support Vedanta Aluminium’s drive to enhance gender diversity across its workforce.

The locomotive teams play a critical role in the transport and processing of raw materials – a function fundamental to aluminium production.
Rajiv Kumar, Vedanta Aluminium CEO, highlighted the significance of the expansion, saying, “Our first all-women locomotive team broke new ground by proving that skill, precision, and leadership know no gender. With this expansion, we are doubling down on our commitment to inclusion in action, creating opportunities where women drive some of the most critical operational roles in Indian industry. This is not just about numbers but about shaping the culture of tomorrow’s industrial workplaces.”
His remarks highlight Vedanta’s noble intention towards inclusion and diversity in the organisational culture, instead of simply portraying it symbolically. The company believes it’s a step towards gender equality and enhancing workplace morale.
