Egypt’s largest aluminium producer, Misr Aluminium Company (EgyptAlum), is set to receive electricity from a 569 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar power plant being developed in the country’s Qena Governorate. The project will supply power under a long-term purchase agreement, with Egypt’s Ministry of Finance guaranteeing EgyptAlum’s payment obligations.
The first phase of the Dandara solar and battery project will also include a 100 megawatt-hour (MWh) energy storage system. It is expected to generate around 1,500 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity in its first year of operation.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide a loan of up to USD 90 million towards the project, backed by a guarantee from the European Fund for Sustainable Development Plus (EFSD+). The project company, Dandara Solar Power S.A.E., is owned by Norwegian renewable energy developer Scatec ASA.
The EIB is financing the project alongside the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the African Development Bank. Construction is expected to begin shortly, with commercial operations scheduled for April 2028.
