Vedanta Limited has reported record-breaking aluminium and alumina production in its second-quarter (Q2) results for FY2025-26, released on Saturday, October 4. The Indian producer said both first-quarter and first-half aluminium output reached all-time highs, supported by improved operational efficiencies and higher refinery throughput.
Quarterly performance analysis
According to the company’s data, total alumina production during Q2 FY2025-26 stood at 653,000 tonnes, marking an 11.25 per cent increase from 587,000 tonnes recorded in the previous quarter. On a year-on-year basis, alumina output surged 31 per cent from 499,000 tonnes in Q2 FY2024-25, reflecting consistent capacity utilisation at the Lanjigarh refinery.
Total aluminium production for the three months ended September 30, 2025, reached 617,000 tonnes, up 1.98 per cent from 605,000 tonnes in the preceding quarter and 1 per cent higher year-on-year compared to 609,000 tonnes in Q2 FY2024-25. Of this, the Jharsuguda smelter contributed 467,000 tonnes, while BALCO accounted for 150,000 tonnes.
Performance trajectory & previous fiscal year overview
These milestones extend Vedanta’s strong performance trajectory from FY2024-25, when the company also achieved its highest-ever quarterly and half-yearly aluminium output. In H1 FY2024-25, aluminium production totalled 1.205 million tonnes, with 609,000 tonnes produced in Q2, an increase of 2.18 per cent from Q1 FY2024-25 and 2.53 per cent higher year-on-year.
For the full year FY2023-24, Vedanta’s aluminium output amounted to 2.37 million tonnes, up 3 per cent Y-o-Y. Continuing the ongoing momentum, the company is on track to surpass its previous year’s production levels by the end of FY2025-26.

Operational & financial highlights
Vedanta also reported an improved operational performance for H1 FY2024-25, with power sales rising 10 per cent Y-o-Y on the back of higher generation from thermal plants and alumina output up 21 per cent year-on-year.
On the financial front, in Q1 FY2024-25, the company recorded a 37 per cent Y-o-Y jump in net profit to INR 3,606 crore versus INR 2,640 crore in Q1 FY2023-24. Revenue rose 5.6 per cent Y-o-Y to INR 35,239 crore, while EBITDA increased 47 per cent Y-o-Y. Vedanta continues to pursue its long-term goal of achieving USD 10 billion in EBITDA, with aluminium projected to contribute USD 4.2 billion of that total.
