
The US imports of crude metal and alloys rose 16.44% or 49,000 tonnes year-on-year to 347,000 tonnes in January 2020. The US had imported 298,000 tonnes in January 2019, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from the US Geological Survey.
Crude metal and alloys imports increased by 9.46% from December’s imports of 317,000 tonnes and 14.9% from November’s imports of 302,000 tonnes.

The US imported 3.8 million tonnes of crude metal and alloys in 2019, as compared to 4.13 million tonnes in 2018. This marked a decrease of 7.99% or 330,000 tonnes.
On the export side, the US exported 16,600 tonnes of crude metal and alloys in January 2020, from 22,200 tonnes exported in January 2019. That was down 25.23% or 5,600 tonnes year-on-year.
On a month-on-month basis, the exports reduced by 5.14% or 900 tonnes from 17,500 tonnes.
In 2019, crude metal and alloys exports stood at 233,000 tonnes, representing a decrease of 20.21% or 59,000 tonnes year-on-year. The US had exported 292,000 tonnes in 2018.
