
The US imports of crude metal and alloys stood at 250,000 tonnes in January 2021. That was a decline of 28% from 347,000 tonnes in January 2020, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from the US Geological Survey. On a monthly basis, crude metal and alloys imports increased by 9% from December’s imports of 229,000 tonnes.

The US imported 3.27 million tonnes of crude metal and alloys in 2020, as compared to 3.8 million tonnes in 2019. This marked a decrease of 13.95%.
On the export side, the US exported 15,700 tonnes of crude metal and alloys in January 2021, from 16,600 tonnes exported in January 2020. That was down 5.42% or 900 tonnes year-on-year. On a month-on-month basis, the exports rose 9% or 1,300 tonnes from 14,400 tonnes.
In 2020, crude metal and alloys exports stood at 182,000 tonnes, marking a decrease of 22% year-on-year. The US had exported 233,000 tonnes in 2018.
