
Aluminium imports by the US for consumption stood at 2.43 million tonnes during five months period 2019, down 480,000 tonnes or 16.49% from 2.91 million tonnes during five months period 2018, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from US Geological Survey. In May, the US imported 478,000 tonnes of aluminium, down 10.32% from May 2018 and 6.27% from April.

The US imports of crude metal and alloys decreased 17.77% year-on-year to stand at 287,000 tonnes in May 2019. Crude metal and alloys import were at 349,000 tonnes in May 2018. Imports dropped 8.6% month-on-month from 314,000 tonnes in April.

In the first five months of 2019, the US imported 1.5 million tonnes of crude metal and alloys as compared to 1.99 million tonnes in the first five months of 2018, which indicates a 24.62% decrease year-on-year.
On the export side, the US exported 104,000 tonnes of crude metal and alloys in January-May 2019 as compared to 128,000 tonnes in January-May 2018. This records a drop of 18.75% on the year.

Exports dropped 17.39% year-on-year to 20,900 tonnes in May. Exports of crude metal and alloys were down 4.13% month-on-month.
