Teachers and Artists to Dig for Treasure in Coventry Recycling Scrapstore

Coventry Recycling of Waste (CROW) is throwing open its doors, inviting students, teachers and artists to raid its collection of materials.
From plastic to paper and fabrics, the recycling operation collects materials from recycling banks and businesses across the city.
But now it’s inviting artists to dig through its collection and reuse the materials in their own projects. Barbara Cowling said: “I’ve wanted to do this for a long, long time.
“We visited the Bristol Scrapstore more than 20 years ago and it was like walking into a treasure trove.
“CROW couldn’t do that at the time because we didn’t have the funds but it was clearly a great idea.
"More than 20 years later we’ve finally got it together!”
The recycling project has been running for 26 years, supported by a team of volunteers, long term unemployed, work experience students and people with learning disabilities.
It collects aluminium and steel cans from recycling banks around the city, but as kerbside recycling has seen the intake of cans fall, CROW is now boosting business by collecting and shredding confidential documents, which are used as bedding at a greyhound sanctuary.
