
Romania’s estimated imports of bauxite increased 37.54 per cent on the year in 2018. The country procured 1.819 million tonnes of bauxite from the global market last year. Sierra Leone continued to remain the top bauxite supplier to Romania. Sierra Leone supplied 1.814 million tonnes of bauxite in 2018 compared with 1.313 tonnes in 2017.
According to recent estimates, Romania imported 0.986 million tonnes of bauxite in 2016, which increased by 34 per cent to total at 1.322 million tonnes in 2017. The country’s estimated bauxite imports increased 37.54 per cent year-on-year to 1.819 million tonnes in 2018. The import volume is estimated to stand at 1.778 million tonnes in 2019, down 2.25 per cent from 2018, but up 34.44 per cent from 2017.

Romania’s total import of bauxite was valued at US$35.3 million in 2016. The country shipped bauxite worth US$46.4 million in 2017, an increase of 31 per cent year-on-year.

In 2018, the estimated value from bauxite imports stood at US$60.7 million, up 30.75 per cent from 2017. The total value of import is estimated to reach US$59.61 million in 2019, down 1.8 per cent from 2018.
