Rheinfelden Alloys, a subsidiary of Aluminium Rheinfelden Group, has signed a global licensing agreement with MNA Nikkei MC Aluminium for the production of innovative, patented aluminium alloys. After the agreement NMA Nikkei MC Aluminium will be authorised to manufacture and sell Rheinfelden’s Silafont, Castasil, Castaduct, and Castaman aluminium alloys worldwide.

“It is an important step for us in the growth strategy of our company,” says Erika Zender, CEO of Aluminium Rheinfelden.
Shuichi Asakuno, CEO of MNA Nikkei MC Aluminium says: “The special alloys of Rheinfelden Alloys round out our portfolio perfectly, and we can now better meet the needs of innovative foundries and OEMs.”
Rheinfelden Alloys is a leader in the development and production of innovative aluminium alloys for the automotive sector operating since 1994. Specialty aluminium alloys can increase productivity in manufacturing, and offer higher quality components with more complex shapes and better strength.
Aluminium Rheinfelden’s Silafont alloy, which was used in the design and production of the Audi A8 Spaceframe body, is a breakthrough in vehicle structural components. Till the agreement was signed, customers could source the Rheinfelden Alloys only from the production site in Rheinfelden.
“That restricted us significantly in terms of both volume and logistics,” explains Erika Zender.
The agreement will bring together the high production capacity and worldwide sales network of NMA Nikkei MC and the technical know-how of Rheinfelden Alloys. It allows NMA Nikkei MC Aluminium to produce the alloys from its locations in Japan, the USA, Thailand and China. They can sell the products all over Asia and the NAFTA region.
“With this agreement, we are boosting our potential production volume and, for the first time, we are directly represented in the key regions of the automotive sector,” highlights Erika Zender.
NMA Nikkei MC had to undergo a comprehensive certification process and knowledge transfer in application consulting by Rheinfelden Alloys before the agreement. Rheinfelden Alloys feels the agreement will give casting plants and customers worldwide access to high-end raw materials and this will help them produce lightweight automotive components at a lesser cost.
