Programme helps foil achieve BRC "Widely Recycled" label

Leading foil tray manufacturer Nicholl Food Packaging is one of the companies behind a major recycling and awareness–building programme undertaken by Alupro, the Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organisation, which has enabled foil to qualify for the ‘Widely Recycled at Recycling Points’ labelling under the British Retail Consortium’s On-Pack Recycling Label scheme.
The Aerofoil programme was launched in 2009 to help local authorities add foil and aerosols to their collections and promote recycling services. It was funded by Alupro foil converter member companies, the largest of which is market leader Nicholl. Additional funding was provided by the British Aerosol Manufacturers Association, Unilever and Tata Steel.
The ‘Widely Recycled at Recycling Points’ recognition has been achieved thanks to the Aerofoil programme’s expansion of the kerbside collection infrastructure for aluminium foil trays. To qualify, 65% of local authorities must collect the material with kerbside or ‘bring’ systems (with a minimum of five collection banks per authority). This criterion is set to increase to 70% in 2012 and 75% in 2013 but Alupro says the sector is in line to meet these new requirements thanks to the Aerofoil programme.
