New aluminium recycling plant set to drive jobs & economic growth in Brazil

EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

Brazil’s aluminium recycling success story is about to get a new chapter. Alugreen has announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art recycling plant in Linhares, Espírito Santo, an ambitious project backed by an initial investment of R$45 million (USD 8.47 million). Linhares is a city located in the northern part of the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil.

Nestled in the Eco Park Logistics Park within the Bebedouro Industrial District, the facility signals a bold step forward for Brazil’s circular economy. In its opening phase, the plant will generate about 50 direct jobs and 500 indirect ones, supplying recycled aluminium primarily to the steel and metallurgy industries. But this is only the beginning.

By 2027, phases two and three will bring an additional R$60 million (USD 11.3 million) in funding, expand production to include special alloys and aluminium sheets, and open new international markets. These expansion phases are projected to create another 250 direct and 2,500 indirect jobs, cementing Linhares as a growing hub for sustainable industry.

“Espírito Santo also stands out for its policy of encouraging sustainable industrialisation and its proximity to important consumer markets for recycled aluminium, especially the metallurgical and steel sectors,” the company explained.

For lead investor Frederico Menegatti, Linhares was the obvious choice. Its proximity to ports and highways, coupled with solid logistical infrastructure and strong government support, made it a strategic location.

Beyond economics, Alugreen’s project is designed to ripple through society. The facility will help build a recycling ecosystem that connects waste pickers, cooperatives, transporters, and manufacturers, fostering social inclusion, driving technological innovation, and accelerating economic growth.

This marks Alugreen’s first facility outside Minas Gerais and underlines Brazil’s global leadership in aluminium recycling. The country already recycles more than 95 per cent of its aluminium cans, an achievement unmatched anywhere else in the world. And with recycling requiring just 5 per cent of the energy used in primary production, Alugreen’s new plant will serve as both a business venture and a sustainability milestone.
