National Seminar on Aluminium Extrusion in Bangalore brings together industry professionals to discuss innovations and applications in extrusion

AAI organized a One Day National Seminar on “Aluminium in Extrusion: Next generation, New Innovations” on Thursday, 23rd August 2018 at The Chancery Pavilion, Residency Road, Bengaluru, India.

Aluminium extrusions are used for their strength, flexibility, durability and sustainability in various sectors such as construction, transportation, electrical, machinery and consumer durables. Easy recyclability has also boosted the usage of aluminium extrusion in these sectors.  Market research analyst estimates the global aluminium extrusion market to witness a tremendous growth @ 7 to 8% CAGR. Focus will be on Transport and B&C segments. At the same time there are challenges from other materials.

India, one of the fastest growing economies, has opened up a avenues for more and more applications in the building and construction and the Transport sector. With a view to encourage the increasing use of aluminium extrusions in the relevant industry and to create awareness about the newer applications and the innovation in development taking place in the Industry, Aluminium Association of India (AAI) apex body of all aluminium industries in the country, organized the conference and brought together industry players from the aluminium sector to deliberate on the topic. The convention was attended by top leaders of the aluminium Industry, policy makers, downstream producers, technologists and foreign delegates.

Addressing delegates in the event, Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD of Nalco said that the country needs a dedicated national policy for aluminium to boost overall production and double per capita consumption of the metal.

‘’There is need for a National Aluminium Policy to enable the industry to produce 10 million tonne of aluminium with 75% in downstream,” he said.

He requested government of India to include aluminium in the group of core industries and said India needs to double its per capita consumption. He talked about increasing the downstream applications of aluminium. While domestic aluminium demand has been growing at a rate of 10% every year, it is projected to double in the next 5-7 years to around 7 million tonne. 

An Italian delegation which attended the convention led by its trade commissioner Prof Alberto Cavicchiolo, discussed the potential of downstream aluminium industries in India. Professor in his presentation spoke about the potential of a lasting relationship between India and Italy in the application sector. In his presentation he spoke about the aluminium casting, extrusion and rolling applications in the railways sector in India.

Jindal Aluminium Ltd, the largest aluminium extruder in India spoke about the company’s capacity, quality assurance and the ability to cater to the growing application sector in India. The company produced 85,490 tonnes of quality aluminium extrusion in 2017-2018. Company Executive Director spoke about the next generation of modern extrusion plants.
