
Bauxite mining operations, which was delayed by up to one week due to arrival of Tropical Cyclone Nora, is now scheduled to commence the week of 9 April 2018. It is not expected that this delay will have any impact on the 2018 production target, Metro Mining updated.

The company said that there were no personnel injuries or damage to the site or equipment as a result of tropical cyclone Nora which passed Bauxite Hills on Saturday. The workforce is re-mobilising to site and clean-up activities are underway.
Metro Mining Managing Director and CEO Simon Finnis said: “We are very pleased with the efforts of all personnel in preparing for the cyclone and implementing the orderly evacuation of the workforce from site. We congratulate and thank all those involved.”
Metro Mining’s Bauxite Hills Mine is approximately 95 kilometres north of Weipa on Western Cape York. The mine plan is based on 92.2Mt reserves giving the mine a 17-year mine life. Bauxite Hills Mine project will produce an initial rate of 2 million tonnes per annum of bauxite, ramping up to six-million tonnes a year over the first four years.
