
Japan’s imports of aluminium including scrap from the US totalled 3,070 tonnes in August 2019, an increase of 16.29% from July total of 2,640. Compared to June 2019, imports were down by 11.53% from 3,470 tonnes. Aluminium imports by Japan rose by 3.72% from May’s imports of 2,960 tonnes and 11.23% from April’s imports of 2,760 tonnes.

Imports of semi-finished products (plates, sheets, bars, etc.) from the US came in at 1,780 tonnes in August, with a month-on-month increase of 39.06%. Imports climbed by 31.85% from June and 20.27% from May. Japan imported 12,300 tonnes of semi-finished from the US in January-August.
Imports of aluminium scrap dropped by 12.6% month-on-month to 1,110 tonnes in August. Imports were down by 40% from 1,850 tonnes in June. Aluminium scrap imports from the US stood at 10,000 tonnes in January-August. Crude metal and alloys imports increased by 96.67% from July to 177 tonnes in August. Total imports amounted to 1,290 tonnes in January-August.
On the export side, Japan’s exports of total aluminium to the US totalled 5,030 tonnes in August 2019, off 11.75% from July total of 5,700 tonnes. Aluminium exports to the US in the first eight months of 2019 stood at 41,100 tonnes.
