India’s aluminium scrap imports from US increase 6,000 tonnes M-o-M to 34,100 tonnes in July 2021

According to the latest data shown by the US Census Bureau, India’s aluminium scrap imports from the United States in July 2021 stood at 34,100 tonnes, which reflected an increase of 6,000 tonnes or 21.35 per cent month-on-month. In June 2021, India imported 28,100 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the US, down by 5.07 per cent from 29,600 tonnes in May.

On a year-on-year calculation, India’s aluminium scrap imports from the US in July 2021 stood 57.14 per cent higher than 21,700 tonnes.

In the first seven months of the year, total imports amounted to 203,000 tonnes, up by 40 per cent from 145,000 tonnes during the same period last year.

The United States total aluminium scrap exports in July 2021 came in at 170,000 tonnes – 13,000 tonnes or 8.28 per cent more than 157,000 tonnes in June 2021. In May 2021, the Unites States aluminium scrap exports also stood at 170,000 tonnes.

Outlook for the Indian Aluminium Industry

During January-July 2021, the US aluminium scrap exports totalled 1.150 million tonnes, up by 13.86 per cent from 1.010 million tonnes during the same period last year.
