Gove Bauxite refinery to deals with waste water issue
The owners of the bauxite refinery on the Gove Penisula in the Northern Territory say they're working on ways to deal with an excess of waste water that accumulated on the site.

Waste water is produced as part of the refining process, and the amount stored by the facility has been growing in the last decade.

Pacific Aluminium Gove Operations health, safety and environment manager, Leon Staude, says the company has commissioned a project to try to neutralise waste water.

"Basically, (we'll) mix it with sea water to neutralise the caustic liquor," he said.

"As a result of that, you do get some precipitates, they go back to the residue disposal area, and the clean water which comes out as a result of the process comes back into our sea water channel and out into the bay."
