Falmouth Marine School students appeal for aluminium cans to raise fund for the town's aquarium
The group have undertaken the task as part of a work experience module which requires them to carry out some fundraising. So far a number of recycling bins at the College have already been filled as student Mykel Ephraim explained:
"We've been collecting a lot from other students, family and friends. Some of us even went to the local beaches and collected some during a beach clean. We are now asking local people to help us too."
Cans can be dropped off to the Marine School Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 5pm, up until 7th January.
Mykel continued: "We think that the aquarium is a fantastic addition to Falmouth town. The money raised will go towards new tanks and equipment so more people can learn about marine life."
The students are also asking for people to bring in two litre plastic bottles for another project in partnership with Falmouth Primary School. The bottles will be used to make shelters, one for the Marine School and the other for Falmouth Primary School. They need 1500 bottles to build one shelter; again bottles can be left at Falmouth Marine School.
David Stedman, Head of Falmouth Marine School said: "The Marine Biology students are very passionate about recycling at Falmouth Marine School and indeed supporting Falmouth Aquarium and spreading the recycling message to others. Both projects enable the students to receive accreditation towards their studies and do what they love."
