European aluminium foil deliveries down 2% in the first half of 2012

EAFA issues periodical statements on foil deliveries.
Total deliveries in H1 fell 2% to 411,500 mt from 420,100 mt in H1 2011.
Thinner foil gauges used in flexible packaging and household foil saw a decline of 2%, while thicker gauges used for semi-rigid containers and technical applications fell almost 8%, the EAFA said.
However, the EAFA also said that these figures masked a better performance in the second quarter of 2012.
"We are confident that total production for the whole year will match results from last year," EAFA executive director Stefan Grimm said. "The second quarter results were very encouraging after a period of negative figures."
He added that the outlook for aluminium foil production is optimistic for the third and fourth quarter.
"There is an increasing demand for short term deliveries, rather than longer term ordering which can affect these results," he said.
Aluminium foil is commonly used in packaging and laminates.
Approximately 75% of European aluminium foil production is used in packaging and household foil, while 25% is used in technical applications, according to the EAFA website.
