Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the world’s largest producer of premium aluminium, has announced another major expansion at its EGA Spectro Alloys facility in Minnesota, USA. The latest phase of development will increase the aluminium recycling plant’s total capacity to 200,000 tonnes per year, strengthening EGA’s growing footprint in the American market.

The plant is already ramping up output from the first phase of its expansion, completed in July this year, which added an additional 55,000 tonnes of billet capacity.
The next phase will further boost EGA Spectro Alloys’ recycled billet capacity by 45,000 tonnes per year, with construction expected be completed in 2027.

It will include an additional scrap melting furnace and a batch homogeniser, enabling the plant to handle a wider range of scrap inputs and deliver higher-quality recycled aluminium products.
EGA Spectro Alloys’ metal is marketed under EGA’s recycled aluminium brand RevivAL, which reflects the company’s push toward sustainability and circular manufacturing.
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Global Aluminium, said, “The next phase of expansion at EGA Spectro Alloys is another important step in growing our production in the United States, where there is strong demand for both primary and recycled EGA-quality metal ‘made in America’.”
According to CRU, an independent business intelligence organisation, demand for recycled aluminium in the United States is expected to reach around 8 million tonnes per year by 2034. The US currently stands as the world’s second-largest recycled aluminium market, underscoring the significance of EGA’s investment.
In addition to its Minnesota project, EGA has ambitious plans to build the first new primary aluminium production plant in the United States since 1980, to be located in Oklahoma. The facility will have a production capacity of at least 600,000 tonnes per year, nearly doubling the country’s existing primary aluminium output.
Back home in the UAE, EGA is constructing the nation’s largest aluminium recycling plant at Al Taweelah, designed to produce 100,000 tonnes per year of aluminium billets and 84,000 tonnes of T-Bars. The plant is expected to begin production in the first quarter of 2026.
EGA acquired an 80 per cent stake in EGA Spectro Alloys in 2024, marking a significant step in the company’s strategy to expand its recycling and low-carbon aluminium production capabilities globally.
