Construction begins at AGI Greenpac’s aluminium beverage can facility in UP

AGI Greenpac, a leading packaging products company in India, has inaugurated the construction of its aluminium beverage can manufacturing facility with the ground-breaking ceremony. The project is worth INR 10 billion (USD 105 million) and spans across 34 acres, located in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh.

Rajesh Khosla, the CEO, mentioned, “This investment reflects our deep conviction in India’s growth trajectory and the significant opportunities within the domestic packaging sector.”

High-speed and cutting-edge production systems are being installed in the greenfield facility to make it a modern manufacturing hub, expected to become operational by June 2027. The initial production volume has been fixed at 1.3 billion cans per year. This would later be upgraded to an annual production capacity of 1.6 billion cans, which would have the option for a further scale-up to over 2 billion cans.

“Beyond capacity, this project strengthens our operational efficiencies, logistics capabilities and our broader commitment to sustainable, responsible manufacturing,” Khosla added.

AGI announced at the inaugural ceremony that the plant would be manufacturing a variety of aluminium beverage cans, serving a diverse range of categories. Some of these are ready-to-drink beverages, energy drinks, beer, and carbonated soft drinks.

The Indian aluminium beverage can industry is being propelled by premiumisation, increasing urban demand, and a growing move toward sustainable packaging solutions. AGI Greenpac expects to emerge as a key player in the sector, which at present has an annual capacity of 3.9 billion cans, with a high potential to climb and achieve a double-digit production rate.
