CMPDI expands expertise into non-coal exploration with impressive bauxite exploration

EDITED BY : ISHITA GANGULY 2MINS READ

Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI), a Mini Ratna Company and subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has ventured into non-coal exploration activities, marking a significant expansion of its expertise. They have recently submitted a comprehensive geological report for bauxite exploration.

In this effort, CMPDI undertook the "Preliminary Exploration (G3) of Bauxite in Madua Pat I Bauxite Block, Lohardaga District, Jharkhand" project and successfully delivered the geological report to the National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET). This project received full funding from the National Mineral Exploration Trust, under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India.

The results of the exploration are promising, with a total estimated net in-situ bauxite resource of 1.40 million tonnes and an average grade of 33.46 per cent Al2O3. Additionally, an Aluminous Laterite resource of 11.67 million tonnes, with an average grade of 34.46 per cent Al2O3, in the "Inferred Category" has been added to the national inventory.

Furthermore, the project has unveiled a significant discovery of 10.95 million tonnes of net in-situ TiO2 containing ore with an average grade of 7.04 per cent TiO2 within the block.

CMPDI is actively engaged in two other Bauxite exploration projects in Lohardaga district and one Base metal exploration project in Giridih district. This diversification initiative highlights CMPDI's commitment to broadening its horizons beyond coal exploration.

While CMPDI has an established track record as a key player in coal exploration in India, having completed over 1000 coal exploration projects across diverse terrains and geological conditions, this successful foray into non-coal exploration represents a significant milestone in its history.
