China’s imports of copper and aluminum scraps down 20% from Q1-Q3 2014

The continuous decline in imports is mirrored by a drop of 19.62% and 21.94% in imports of copper and aluminum scraps during the period, respectively, according to China Non-Ferrous Metals Industry Association.
“Imported copper scraps are expected to fall to 50% in its proportion of raw materials supply, and the proportion of imported aluminum scraps will drop to 40% in 2014, down by 20% and 15%, respectively,” predicted by Shang Fushan, Vice President of China Non-Ferrous Metals Industry Association, and President of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association Recycling Metal Branch.
During the same period, output of secondary non-ferrous metals (copper, aluminum, lead and zinc ) was 7.37 million tonnes in China, and with full-year output expected below 11 million tonnes, Shang foresees at the 14th Secondary Metals International Forum.
The output growth of China’s secondary non-ferrous metals has been slowing, with annual growth estimated less than 3% during 2011-2014, Shang added.
