China Imported 24,470 Thousand tons of Bauxite from Jan. to May

According to the data from China Customs, China imported 6,274 thousand tons of bauxite in May. From Jan. to May, China imported a total of 24,473 thousand tons of alumina and the amount increased to 42.4% from the last year. According to statistics, China imported 5,564 thousand tons of bauxite from Indonesia in May and the amount increased to 62.6%. Furthermore, China imported 710 thousand tons of bauxite from Australia in May.
The reason behind such huge upsurge in Bauxite import volume in May is the tariff and more importantly the huge tax imposed by Indonesia on its bauxite import. Thus, domestic traders and alumina manufacturers who are entirely dependent on imported bauxite chose to replenish the stock in advance and increased the import volume. Such preventive measures led to such huge import of bauxite to the country before June, since the new bauxite rule was supposed to be effective from that month.
