Bridgnorth Aluminium champions critical metal status with UK recruitment drive

EDITED BY : 4MINS READ

With the motive to drive aluminium's role as the champion among the critical materials, used in various vital sectors, Bridgnorth Aluminium, Britain's fully integrated producer of flat rolled aluminium coils, is currently looking for candidates to fill 10 positions in the expansive site in Bridgnorth. This recruitment drive will be conducted at the event set to take place in September.

Sectors, likely aerospace, automotive, energy generation and defence, have been using aluminium as one of the key metals in their production process, but the spotlight upon it is not as much as steel. By considering that, the firm is aiming to provide the material the same spotlight with a special focus on its recyclability feature and its role within the circular economy.

This is more so because earlier this year, the Government opened a consultation on its steel strategy, outlining plans to make up to EUR 2.5 billion (USD 2.7 billion) in public funding and finance available to the sector. The initiative positions steel as "essential for a modern economy," reinforcing its strategic importance to the UK's industrial landscape.

Owing to this strategy driven by the Government, the company is initiating a recruitment drive initiative of the organisation, marking the strategy to champion aluminium as a critical metal within diverse and allied industries.

Adrian Musgrave, commercial director of Bridgnorth Aluminium, stated, "We're investing heavily in greening our manufacturing operations and diversifying into new markets, where aluminium offers a new lightweight option. There's an appetite to create new jobs and expand, but there are a lot of external challenges facing us - including the EU and UK Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanisms (CBAM) and scrap leakage. The Government needs to put together a joined-up sector-specific strategy by consulting with us."

The push behind this initiative is to create awareness of the profitability of the aluminium industry, which is not receiving the required backing and attention, making it fall behind in the critical metal category. This is why the firm will be closely working with other relevant companies within the sector in order to bring the required change as enunciated by Musgrave.

To gain better traction for this initiative, the company will secure its presence at the UK Metals Expo to be held in Birmingham next week.

Adrian Musgrave, commercial director of Bridgnorth Aluminium, commented, "UK Metals Expo is the perfect place for us to beat the drum for aluminium. We're a profitable industry doing some amazing things, yet we always seem to fall behind other metals when it comes to attention and backing. Working with other companies in our sector, we want to change that."

Concerning the UK Metals Expo, poised to take place in Birmingham between September 10 and 11, the company will be taking 10 experts and will be at the stand L55. Experts, including the heads of sustainability and technical, will represent the company at the UK Metals Expo. The event will also feature the premiere of a new recruitment video showcasing the diverse career opportunities within the business. Joining them will be the representatives from sister company Metal Agencies, a leading supplier of non-ferrous and ferrous semi-finished products and cables.

Adrian is set to participate in the panel discussion on "The UK Aluminium Alliance – Strengthening Strategic Industry Partnerships" on Wednesday, September 10th at 1:30 pm. The panel discussion will be hosted by ALFED, addressing the role of collaboration within the aluminium ecosystem in advancing circularity, trade resilience, skills development and sustainable growth.

Also on the speaker lineup, Metal Agencies' Dr. Thomas Papageorgiou will contribute to the "Sustainable Solutions in Action" session at 11:30 am the same day. As Sustainability Senior Manager, he will share practical insights on achieving sustainability in manufacturing, with a focus on resource efficiency, process optimisation and circularity.

Currently, the company is operating from a 66-acre facility equipped with two cast houses, two rolling mills, two cold rolling mills, a multi-slitting line and several finishing lines. The site also houses advanced R&D facilities and metallurgy laboratories, supporting its comprehensive production and innovation capabilities.
