Beacons will light up Gladstone Harbour
A Beacons of nautical stars will soon be lighting up Gladstone Harbour.

A giant sphere standing as a marker on Auckland Hill, will celebrate our regions place in the aluminium industry.

The art installation commissioned by well-known Australian artist Donna Marcus has officially been endorsed by Gladstone Regional Council after a lengthy consultation process.

Propel will be constructed on Auckland Hill next year as part of an art commission project known as The Aluminium Transformation.

The fabrication process is set to begin in the next few months Ms Marcus said the sculpture will be at least 2 metres in diameter and is very much a site specific project.

"The concept for this work continues my interest in aluminium and the impact this material had in shaping modernity," she said.

"Once as rare as gold, aluminium is now used in everything from kitchenware to spaceships."

"As with all public art projects, there is a great deal of work to be undertaken in the next design development stage, but I can't wait to get started and see the work go into production in the New Year," she said.
