Ball to provide its client ASI certified aluminium cans and bottles

The Global Aerosol Packaging business of BALL Corporation has obtained accreditation from the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) for Performance and Chain of Custody Standards. The certification is applied to all nine of Ball's production facilities and aerosol containers and slugs globally.

As a result, Ball is the first manufacturer of extruded aluminium to be able to provide its client's ASI-certified aluminium aerosol cans, slugs and bottles. The move aligns with Ball's 2030 environmental targets, which include switching to 100 per cent renewable power by 2030 and attaining net zero carbon emissions by 2050. This also entails ensuring that all the aluminium you buy comes from verified sustainable sources.

The Chain of Custody standard specifies the conditions that must be met to establish a transparent and traceable supply chain. In contrast, the Performance standard assesses how much effort a firm makes to evaluate, manage, and report environmental, social, and governance consequences.

“ASI guarantees the highest sustainability standards throughout the entire aluminium value chain – from mining through refining, smelting, manufacturing, and product use, up to end-of-life management and recycling. It enables the aluminium industry to clearly demonstrate responsibility and provide independent and credible assurance of performance,” said Predrag Ozmo, Sustainability Director at Ball Aerosol Packaging.
