According to a report on August 10, the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative has renewed the Performance Standard Certification for Hydro Extrusions through May 2025. It covers 47 sites, of which two-thirds are certified against the ASI Chain of Custody certification.

ASI Performance Standard certification recognizes responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium, while Chain of custody pre-defines requirements for aluminium production and processes through the value chain into downstream sectors. It means not only the sites and their practices are certified but also the metal they process.
On the renewal of certification, Executive Vice President Paul Warton, who heads Hydro Extrusions, said: “ASI certification strengthens our competitive position in a marketplace where the demand for greener aluminium is growing fast. Developing state-of-the-art sustainable products is a key part of our positioning just as it is for the positioning of our customers.”
Hydro’s 47 ASI-certified sites are in Asia, Europe and South America. Next up is Hydro Extrusions’ plant in Taicang, China, which recently completed certification audit. Plants in Canada, Mexico and the United States are just in the early stages of preparation for ASI certification, said Jean-Marc Moulin, director of sustainability at Hydro Extrusions.
“Our ambition is to have all of our sites ASI-certified,” said Moulin.
Hydro’s operations in primary aluminium and bauxite & alumina business areas are also certified against the ASI’s certification standards. The certifications cover Hydro’s aluminium smelting, casthouse activities, and recycling at fully-owned sites and JV plant Albras in Brazil.
Hydryo’s Paragominas bauxite mine and Alunorte alumina refinery are also ASI certified.
