The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative has announced that it has successfully certified Ball Beverage Packaging South America (BPSA) against both the Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard Certifications for the manufacturing of aluminium can bodies and can ends at 15 facilities across the country.

Ball is the first can manufacturer in South America to achieve dual ASI Certifications. Earlier in 2020, the company achieved dual certification for its 23 facilities in the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. In total, Ball has 38 dual certified facilities across the world.
The independent, third-party audit of the Ball BPSA facilities was carried out by DNV Business Assurance Services UK Ltd.
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI, said: “ASI warmly congratulates Ball BPSA on achieving Performance and Chain of Custody Standard Certifications at these 15 can body and end production facilities in South America. While stakeholders often focus on the environmental aspects of sustainability performance, we are pleased to see that Ball also focuses strongly on social impact. Its global and regional 2030 social goals and initiatives include employee gender balance and ethnic diversity targets, inclusivity and anti-bias training, and policy focus on protection against discrimination and harassment. We congratulate Ball Corporation and BPSA on this latest set of certifications and their broader commitment to sustainability across their global operations.”
Carlos Pires, President, Ball Beverage Packaging South America, said: “Being the first company in South America in the aluminium packaging sector to achieve both Performance and Chain of Custody Standard certifications proves that we are on the right path towards the sustainability of our products and operations. The aluminium can is already a great case of real circularity all around the world, as the recycling rate is 69%, even more in Brazil, where 97% of all cans are recycled. For many years, we have been working to ensure the sustainability of the entire chain that involves the production of our aluminium cans, and now with the achievement of ASI certification, we see the result of this intense journey being recognized and certified.”
