On June 7, Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) declared that Golden Aluminum recieved the ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) certification for its recycling, re-melting, casting and rolling activities at Fort Lupton, Colorado, US. The rolled products made at Golden Aluminium’s Colorado rolling facility is in demand throughout the automotive, construction and electronics industries. This certification enables the company to safely steward and supply aluminium down its utility chain.
The certification is a milestone for the company as it marks Golden Aluminium among the trustworthy companies listed under the ASI Performance Standard Board.
Bureau Veritas Certification, an independent French inspection and certification company with roots in 1828, performed the third-party audit for the Golden Aluminum plant.
“We sincerely congratulate Golden Aluminum on achieving ASI Performance Standard Certification. The company has a long history of leveraging aluminium’s excellent recyclability properties to make new aluminium sheets from used beverage cans. Golden Aluminum has successfully built on this circular approach with a broader commitment to ESG issues, as demonstrated by its ASI Certification,” declared the Chief Executive Officer at ASI, Fiona Solomon.
The Chief Executive Officer at Golden Aluminium, Jeff Frim exclaimed: “Golden Aluminum was founded with a sustainability mindset, focused on recycling and continuous casting to minimize the environmental impact of producing flat-rolled aluminium sheet products. We are very proud to join the other esteemed companies that have successfully achieved ASI Performance Standard Certification. Being a member of the Aluminum Stewardship Initiative and achieving ASI Performance Standard Certification is a meaningful milestone and assists us in continuing our legacy of sustainability and overall sound ESG practices, doing our part to contribute to a better world.”
The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) is a certification board responsible for the safe handling of aluminium along the supply and production chain. It is the only voluntary, globally accepted standard margin gifted to the industries dealing with aluminium to ensure safe stewardship of the metal. While referring to sustainability concerns in the aluminium value chain, the ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) illustrates 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social. They mainly deal with problems revolving around biodiversity, indigenous people’s rights and greenhouse gas emissions. ASI had first started its Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard certification in December 2017, followed by three years of rectification and the recent publication of new versions in May of this year.
