APAA in strong support of Section 232 Aluminium Program

In order to preserve the importance of the Section 232 program, the domestic primary aluminium industry was seen supporting the tariff-rare quota (TRQ) for the European Union in contrary to the claims made by the associations representing foreign producers.  It is because of these common-sense tariffs that the American primary aluminium industry got saved. It is also helping to rebuild the domestic industry, which is important for the U.S. national and economic security.

Before the onset of the Section 232 program, all the primary aluminium smelters in America were on the verge of getting closed due to the global excess capacity crisis which resulted in price collapse. As a result, the U.S. primary aluminium was able to stabilize and overcome from the loss they suffered due to the global excess crisis.

The members of APAA are working hard to increase the domestic aluminium production with the help of active expansion and hiring process throughout the U.S. as well as places like Hawesville, Missouri, Goose Creek, Kentucky, South Carolina and New Madrid. This is the beginning of the reinvestment for the U.S. primary aluminium industry.

The foreign trade group were however asking to reduce the tariff seek only to help their affiliated semi-finished European production

Calls from foreign trade group asking to reduce the tariff seek only to help their affiliated semi-finished European production rather than investing in American manufacturing and American jobs throughout the complete value chain.

Outlook For The Indian Aluminium Industry

The domestic primary aluminium industry however is in support of the well-crafted tariff rate quota (TRQ) for the EU to save the importance of the Section 232 program. They are not supporting the phase down of the tariff. The Section 232 program continues to look for expansion, investment and also create new job opportunities both in downstream and upstream American aluminium industry.
