
While on one hand China is waging a tough war against the polluting alumina refineries and aluminium smelters, its downstream aluminium industry players are busy scaling their production and selling products off to the international market. As per the latest export-import data published by China General Customs, the country’s total aluminium semi-finished and finished products exports continued to surge in July 2017

{alcircleadd}China’s aluminium semi-finished products export totalled 390,000 tonnes in July and 2.52 million tonnes during January-July, up 6.6 per cent year-on-year. Barring aluminium bar, rod and profiles, export volumes of all other aluminium semi-finished product categories witnessed a jump during the periods under review. The table below shows the export volumes:

In the aluminium finished product categories, China exported 73,719 tonnes of aluminium structure and components in July 2017, up 10.5 per cent YoY; in January-July period, the volume totalled 506,605 tonnes, up 19 per cent YoY.
Aluminium stranded wire, cable export by China also surged by 50.5 per cent YoY and 25 per cent YoY in July and January-July respectively.

China’s aluminium alloy exports grew in tandem with primary aluminium shipments. In July, aluminium alloy export volume totalled 47,362 tonnes and during January-July, the volume stood at 313,505 tonnes.
The top countries which sourced maximum chunks of their aluminium alloy requirements from China during the periods reviewed were Indonesia, Australia, Taiwan (China), Mexico, the U.S., the UAE, and Japan.
