On Sunday, September 8, a hopper filled with coal collapsed at an alumina refinery owned by Maa Kudargarhi Group in Chhattisgarh's Surguja district, taking away the lives of four workers.
{alcircleadd}A hopper, which is also referred to as a bunker by workers, is used to store fuel like coal or rice husk in large quantities. As per preliminary information, one such steel hopper collapsed on ten men working beneath it.
Four lost lives were retrieved from the site, while the remaining six were found survived. Of them, one was critically injured and rushed to the hospital, and the five others managed to escape unharmed, said a police officer. He added the accident took place due to negligence as per the first impression.
The police officer also said the deceased were from Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, "Sad news has been received about the death of 4 workers and injury of many workers in an industrial accident at the Alumina Plant in Surguja. Orders have been given to investigate the matter, strict action will be taken against the culprits. My condolences are with the families of the deceased. I pray to God for peace to the departed souls, strength to the families and speedy recovery of the injured."
Maa Kudargarhi Group was established in 1985 by Mr Anil Agrawal and Sunil Agrawal. The company is specialised in producing special-grade alumina, processing minerals, and generating renewable energy and bio fuels.
