During the December 12-18 week, production of metallurgical-grade alumina among the 44 Chinese producers tracked by Mysteel fell to 1.84 million tonnes, down 1.3 per cent on week, according to Mysteel's survey. Though this marked the lowest weekly output level since early September, production was still 12.8 per cent higher than during the same week last year, Mysteel Global noted.

The pace of decline accelerated from the marginal 0.1 per cent drop the previous week, reflecting longer and more frequent maintenance stoppages at some refineries in response to thinning profitability and production curbs for pollution control, market sources said.
