In 2023, the Company achieved a 92.5 per cent rate of recycled water use in the production of alumina, aluminium, and finished aluminium products. Specific greenhouse gas emissions were reduced by 6.7 per cent compared to 2018 levels, and specific emissions from electrolysis production decreased by 11.4 per cent during the reporting period.

The report also tracks the Company's progress in implementing its new sustainability strategy, launched in 2023. It aims to decouple the Company's environmental impact from its economic growth and transform the aluminium industry into the backbone of the future circular economy. It also seeks to establish a new model of consumption and production in the non-ferrous metals sector based on three principles:

• Future fit – Meets the demands of a future low-carbon and circular economy.

• Adaptive, fair, secure, and inclusive – Promotes a model of interaction that is adaptable, equitable, secure, and inclusive for all value chain participants.

• Developing and integrating advanced technological solutions – Encourages advancing and implementing cutting-edge technologies.

"Amidst the seismic shifts in the global landscape, sustainability remains the unwavering pillar in our journey to progress and development. As a result, in 2023, RUSAL approved the Sustainable Development Strategy through 2035. We are committed to the continuous reduction of environmental impact while increasing aluminium production and the advancement of the well-being of all our stakeholders across the globe," said Elena Myakotnikova, RUSAL's Chief Sustainability Officer.

Addressing ESG risks, fostering stakeholder trust, and pursuing economic growth also help RUSAL sustain its long-term competitiveness and profitability. The Company continuously incorporates best practices for managing environmental risks and opportunities.

One of the primary tasks of RUSAL's ESG transformation is ensuring regulatory air quality. During the reporting year, the Company continued comprehensive work on modernising aluminium smelters, installing new gas cleaning facilities, and utilising atmospheric pollution monitoring systems.

RUSAL has been publishing its non-financial reporting since 2004 in full compliance with international and industry standards, consistently improving the quality and depth of information disclosure. The Company has several fundamental documents outlining the key provisions of its environmental activities: the Environmental Policy, Guidelines on the Environmental Management System, Code of Corporate Ethics, Biodiversity Conservation Policy, and Sustainability Strategy.

RUSAL is the largest producer of low-carbon aluminium manufactured using renewable energy. The Company’s facilities are located in over ten countries with varying natural and climatic conditions and different levels of water availability.
