The average alumina spot price has continued to increase after an intermittent restraint on Friday, June 4. According to the Shanghai Metals Market, the price on June 7 has gained RMB 9 per tonne to come in at RMB 2,485 per tonne.
According to data published on Friday, June 4 by Brazil’s economy ministry, alumina exports from Brazil in May 2021 declined after registering a hike in April. Exports dropped by 7.81% from the same period last year. The decrease in exports was due to lower shipments from Norsk Hydro’s Alunorte alumina refinery.

Shanghai Metals Market (SMM) found that China’s alumina production rose for the third consecutive month in May 2021. According to the data, China produced 6.42 million tonnes of alumina in May, which reflected an increase of 5.07 per cent from 6.11 million tonnes in April. Of 6.42 million tonnes, metallurgical grade alumina production accounted for 6.21 million tonnes in May, up 5.25 per cent from 5.9 million tonnes in the previous month.
