The award-winning company, known for its 100 per cent organic wines, Vinca, is now launching its sustainable, recyclable aluminium-bottled red and white wines in M&S Food stores across the UK starting May 6, 2026.
{alcircleadd}Well-known for its acclaimed canned wines, which were first introduced back in 2021, the firm has been pushing its limits for innovating sustainable wine packaging solutions, which go beyond its launch in the UK's first full-sized wines in 100 per cent recycled aluminium bottles, which were priced at £10.50 (USD 13.95) for 750ml.
Aluminium's lightweight feature comes in organic red Syrah and Nero D’Avola, along with organic white Catarratto, which are sourced from family-owned sustainable vineyards in Sicily.

The firm's bottle, which is made of 100 per cent post-consumer recycled (PCR) aluminium, holds a much higher recycled content compared to traditional glass bottles, which usually contain about 60 per cent recycled material. Moreover, this keeps the wine chilled and also fresh as the day when the grapes are crushed.
Additionally, the firm claims that the aluminium bottles result in four times lower CO₂ emissions than making glass bottles, with each empty aluminium bottle weighing just 68g compared to the glass's 450g.
Aluminium's compact design enables the firm to have improved transport efficiency with 40 per cent more bottle-holding capacity in a single shipping container and contributes to reduced emissions as well. Alongside this, retailers benefit from this as they are able to stack three Vinca bottles in the same shelf space that usually holds just two glass bottles.

By switching from glass to aluminium bottles, the firm highlights that it has established several positive environmental benefits, which include:
- The aluminium bottles are five times less carbon-intensive in terms of production when compared to glass, with raw production emissions at just 0.129 kgCO₂e for aluminium, whereas the glass emits at 1.03 kgCO₂e.
- Aluminium bottles are deemed to cut carbon emissions by nearly 50 per cent compared to glass, mainly because of their lightweight feature and more efficient stacking during shipping, resulting in emissions of 1.18 kgCO₂e per bottle versus 2.24 kgCO₂e for glass bottles.

- Aluminium bottles' total carbon footprint is said to be 47 per cent lower than glass bottles and is also infinitely recyclable.
- The traditional glass bottles usually produce double the carbon footprint of the firm's aluminium bottles, even before they reach the retail stores, with filled and distributed emissions calculated at 2.24 kgCO₂e for glass compared to 1.18 kgCO₂e for the firm's aluminium bottles.
- Lastly, the firm's switch from the glass bottles to aluminium bottles has aided in reducing emissions by 1.06 kgCO₂e per bottle, which is the same as charging a mobile phone 135 times, based on an average of about 8g CO₂ per charge.

As of now, the firm is introducing the aluminium bottles for its two award-winning wines in M&S Food stores. The two wines include the White Organic Catarratto, which will come in a 750ml aluminium bottle and the White Organic Syrah & Nero D’avola, which will also come in a 750ml aluminium bottle.
Owing to this, Charlie Vass, the co-founder of Vinca, stated, "Seeing our bottles arrive in M&S Food is a major milestone for us. Vinca set out to prove that you don’t have to accept the environmental cost of glass to enjoy great wine. This format lets us keep everything we care about in the liquid, while dramatically reducing the impact around it. For us, this is what progress in wine should look like."
On the other hand, the wine buyer at Marks & Spencer, Harriet Coates, commented, "At M&S, we’re always looking for ways to offer customers great quality wine with a lower environmental footprint. Vinca’s aluminium bottles are an innovative step forward, combining strong sustainability credentials with wines that deliver on flavour and quality. We’re delighted to be introducing them to our stores.”
