Vedanta Aluminium, India's largest aluminium producer, has carried out a comprehensive onsite emergency mock drill at the hydrogen plant within its Jharsuguda power plant operations as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen workplace safety and emergency preparedness.
{alcircleadd}The exercise simulated a hydrogen gas leak during routine maintenance activities, allowing the company to assess its emergency response procedures, interdepartmental coordination and operational readiness under controlled conditions.
The mock drill also included a simulated technician injury, with emergency response teams deploying protective safety equipment and firefighting resources to contain the incident, secure the affected area and declare an "All Clear" after completing the response.
The exercise was observed by senior officials from Vedanta Aluminium along with government representatives, including Swaroop Jena, Deputy Director of Factories and Boilers, Sambalpur Division; Archana Das, Assistant Director of Factories and Boilers, Jharsuguda Zone; Sushant Mishra, District Project Officer, OSDMA; and C. Lakra, Fire Officer, Jharsuguda.
Commenting on the initiative, C Chandru, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium – Jharsuguda, said regular emergency preparedness exercises help evaluate safety systems, strengthen response capabilities and ensure employees are prepared to respond effectively during critical situations. He added that such initiatives reinforce the company's commitment to safeguarding employees, assets and surrounding communities while maintaining high operational standards.
