German downstream aluminium exports fall 13% in H1 2026 but US enters top 5 with 228.1% import surge
Germany’s downstream aluminium export map underwent a noticeable shift in H1 2026. Shipments to the world fell, with most of Germany’s traditional European customers taking less aluminium downstream product. Yet, amid that broad retreat, one market moved in the opposite direction: the United States. German downstream aluminium exports to the world fell to 897,773.19 tonnes in H1 2026 from 1 million tonnes in H1 2025, a decline of 13 per cent year on year. The contrast was particularly sharp in the US market. American imports of German downstream aluminium reached 68,061.61 tonnes in H1 2026, up 228.1 per cent from just 20,743.62 tonnes in H1 2025. Aluminium billet inventory consolidates at highs; production cuts and aluminium price pullback lead to regional divergence in processing fees
According to SMM statistics, on September 30, aluminium billet inventory in major consuming regions in China stood at 149,500 tonnes, up 500 tonnes WoW from last Thursday and down 5,000 tonnes from this Monday, with inventory consolidating at highs and basically flat overall. On a year-over-year basis, inventory was about 35,000 tonnes higher than the same period in 2025 and about 41,000 tonnes higher than the same period in 2024, with total inventory still at the highest level for the same period in the past four years. From the perspective of warehouse withdrawals, aluminium billet withdrawals from September 21 to September 28 totalled 44,800 tonnes, holding near 45,000 tonnes for two consecutive weeks. US-Canada tariff tensions drive 84% rise in aluminum prices for Texas fabricator
A Texas metal fabricator says the cost of aluminum has risen sharply as trade tensions between the US and Canada add pressure to cross-border supply chains. Lance Thrailkill, CEO of All Metals Fabricating in Allen, said the company has seen aluminum prices increase by 84% since March last year, with much of its aluminum sourced from Canada. The higher material costs are affecting both the company’s margins and what its customers pay. Rio Tinto to market RevoCast’s low-carbon aluminium billet from new British Columbia facility
RevoCast’s newly commissioned aluminum billet facility in British Columbia is set to supply more low-carbon extrusion material to North American manufacturers through a new agreement with Rio Tinto. The Langley plant, which began operations in August 2026, can produce more than 80,000 metric tons of 6xxx-series aluminum billet annually. Under the agreement, Rio Tinto will exclusively market the billet, which combines low-carbon primary aluminum produced using hydropower at Rio Tinto’s Kitimat operations with recycled aluminum processed by RevoCast. The partnership will give manufacturers access to billet with recycled and low-carbon content while supporting regional supply chains and greater circularity in British Columbia’s construction sector. India aluminium extrusion sector targets 10% growth with ₹750b revenue amid working capital pressure
India’s aluminium extrusion industry is preparing for strong demand growth of around 10 per cent annually over the next five years, supported by data centres, renewable energy, construction, electric vehicles, semiconductor plants and packaging. At the same time, manufacturers are working to manage higher raw-material and energy costs and the resulting working-capital requirements.
