US exports of aluminium semi-finished products record marginal growth in Jan-Nov; exports to China drop

In November, the US exports of aluminium semi-finished products (plates, sheets, bars, etc.) came in at 79,200 tonnes, down 2.22 per cent from 81,000 in November 2017.On a month on month comparison, the volume decreased 8.55 per cent or 7,400 tonnes from the October export volume of 86,600 tonnes, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from US Geological Survey.

In the first eleven months of 2018, aluminium semi-finished products export stood at 962,000 tonnes, as compared to 957,000 tonnes in the first eleven months of 2017. This marks an increase of 5000 tonnes or 0.52 per cent.

Exports to Canada stood at 28,500 tonnes in November 2018, down 14 per cent year-on-year and 10.94 per cent month-on-month. During January-November, the volume stood at 362,000 tonnes, down from 381,000 tonnes during January-November 2017.

The US exported 37,900 tonnes of aluminium semi-finished products to Mexico in November, up 16.62 per cent year on year. In the first eleven months of 2018, the volume stood at 434,000 tonnes. Exports to China were 2,040 tonnes in November 2018, down from 2,280 tonnes in November 2017. Total imports during eleven months period stood at 24,600 tonnes.
