
In the third quarter of 2022, the United States imported 669,000 tonnes of crude and dried bauxite, recording a sequential growth of 25,000 tonnes or 3.88 per cent, found the US Geological Survey data. In the second quarter, the import volume was 644,000 tonnes, down by 12.50 per cent from 736,000 tonnes in 1Q2022.

Although the bauxite imports into the United States grew over a quarter for Q3, it decreased annually by 24.06 per cent from 881,000 tonnes.
In the entire nine months of 2022, the United States imported 2.050 million tonnes of crude and dried bauxite - 11.25 per cent less than 2.310 million tonnes during the same period last year.
Jamaica continued to be the highest exporter of bauxite to the US in Q3, but volume decreased by 21.04 per cent Q-o-Q from 637,000 tonnes to 503,000 tonnes. On a year-on-year basis, it declined by 19.26 per cent from 623,000 tonnes. During the first three quarters, Jamaica’s bauxite exports to the US totalled 1.76 million tonnes versus 1.89 million tonnes a year earlier.
Turkey emerged as the second leading exporter of crude and dried bauxite to the US in 3Q2022, providing 149,000 tonnes. In the second quarter, the export volume was negligible, while in the first quarter, it was 96,900 tonnes, meaning the export grew by 53.77 per cent in Q3 than in Q1. However, compared to the 250,000 tonnes of exports in 3Q2021, Turkey’s bauxite supply to the US stood 40.40 per cent lower during the same period this year. From Q1 to Q3 2022, the United States imported 246,000 tonnes of bauxite from Turkey versus 382,000 tonnes a year ago.
From other countries, the US imported 38,400 tonnes of crude and dried bauxite during Q1-Q3 of 2022, compared to 32,800 tonnes in the previous year.
