
According to the United States Geological Survey, the US aluminium scrap exports to Malaysia showed a continuous downtrend from December 2019 to February 2020. Until November 2019, the United States aluminium scrap exports saw a month-on-month rise, such as an increase from 30,900 tonnes in September to 40,100 tonnes in October, followed by a further growth to 41,500 tonnes in November.

But from December to February, the exports dwindled right from 32,500 tonnes to 22,500 tonnes. In January, the US exported 26,500 tonnes of aluminium scrap to Malaysia, registering a fall of 18.46 per cent month-on-month, while in February, it exported 22,500 tonnes, down 15.1 per cent over the month.
The United States total exports of aluminium scrap to Malaysia in January and February combined were 49,000 tonnes, down by 51.02 per cent from 74,000 tonnes in November and December combined.
Year-on-year, the United States aluminium scrap exports to Malaysia grew by 60 per cent in February 2020. In February 2019, the US had exported 14,100 tonnes of scrap to Malaysia.
The United States’ total aluminium exports (including alloys and crude and semi-finished) to Malaysia in February were 23,400 tonnes, down by 15 per cent from 27,500 tonnes in January. The total exports in January and February combined were 50,900 tonnes, up by 109 per cent from 24,400 tonnes during the same period last year.
