
The US Geological Survey showed the United States’ aluminium scrap exports to China grew in February 2020, following the jump in the previous month. In February, the US exported 11,400 tonnes of aluminium scrap to China, up 8.6 per cent from January. The country’s exports in January were 10,500 tonnes after registering a surge of 255 per cent from 2,960 tonnes in December 2019. In November 2019, the US aluminium scrap exports to China were 5,400 tonnes, meaning the exports in December declined 45 per cent month-on-month.

The United States in the first two months of the year exported 22,000 tonnes in total, up 163 per cent from the export amount of 8,360 tonnes in November and December.
When compared to 37,400 tonnes in February 2019, the US aluminium scrap exports to China stood lower by 70 per cent in February 2020.
In the first two months of 2019, the United States’ aluminium scrap exports to China were 73,800 tonnes, meaning 70 per cent higher than this year.
After China, Canada was the next destination for the United States aluminium scrap exports. Canada, in February 2020, imported 7,230 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the US, up 4 per cent from 6,950 tonnes in January 2020.
