
The United States’ aluminium scrap exports in April 2023 stood at 167,000 tonnes, reflecting a month-on-month fall of 9,000 tonnes or 5.11 per cent from 176,000 tonnes, found the US Geological Survey. The downfall in April followed a hike in the previous month by 17,000 tonnes or 10.69 per cent from 159,000 tonnes.

On a year-on-year calculation, the US aluminium scrap exports in April 2023 stood 3.73 per cent higher than 161,000 tonnes.
From January to April 2023, the United States exported 662,000 tonnes – 0.60 per cent less than 666,000 tonnes.
India, the highest importer of aluminium scrap from the US, sourced 39,800 tonnes of aluminium scrap in April 2023 versus 36,400 tonnes in March. That reflected a month-on-month increase of 9.34 per cent. On a year-on-year basis, India’s aluminium scrap imports from the US during April’23 recorded a rise of 19.16 per cent from 33,400 tonnes.
During January-April 2023, India’s aluminium scrap imports from the US amounted to 136,000 tonnes, down by 8.11 per cent from 148,000 tonnes despite the monthly and annual rise in April output.
Malaysia, the second-largest importer of aluminium scrap from the United States, procured 34,100 tonnes of aluminium scrap in April compared to 38,500 tonnes in March, meaning a month-on-month decline of 11.43 per cent. However, on a year-on-year basis, Malaysia’s aluminium scrap imports recorded a surge of 41.49 per cent from 24,100 tonnes.
During January-April 2023, Malaysia imported 134,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the US versus 108,000 tonnes a year ago.
